#GALAXY11: The Beginning

Any idea what this ad is for? Interesting...

Should I get the Nokia Lumia 1520?

It's almost a year now that I've been using my Nokia Lumia 920 but I feel like changing to another phone after seeing more Nokia Lumias being introduced into the market. The latest is the Nokia Lumia 1520. In terms of software, whatever is offered is also available for the 920. In terms of hardware, this is a 6 inch phablet with 1080p full HD display. It also packs the ability to add removable SD card for additional storage. Equipped with a 21 megapixel PureView camera, how am I not tempted? If only they can make the phones thinner and lighter, then I'd immediately pick it up.

App Review - Waze for Windows Phone

Waze is finally on released for Windows Phone about a month ago. A much needed app for those that require a GPS app that also measures traffic situation. For Android and iOS users here in Malaysia, this has been the no. 1 app for GPS as it caters the local maps well. Here's my experience with this app after a few use.

I finally got my Nokia Lumia 920!

After holding out on the Lumia 900 and using the dated HTC Mozart 7 for the past 2 years, I finally made made the move to the new Lumia 920 released in Malaysia just a few days ago. Made a pre-order with a RM200 deposit which really makes no difference than buying it on the spot. Just that it was probably harder to get the red one and you might not get the free umbrella and pen drive. Yup, not much difference. Head on over after the break for my thoughts.

Introducing Microsoft Surface Tablet

Just last week Microsoft held a last minute event to announce that they're manufacturing their own tablet powered with the upcoming Windows 8. The line is called Surface, taking over the name from the touch screen table they've been developing previously. Details on the versions that will be available is after break.

"The New iPad" officially announced!

This morning Malaysia time, Apple announced the succesor to the iPad 2, the New iPad. Some call it iPad 3, some 4G iPad. The new gizmo will sport a higher resolution screen with Retina Display, a faster processor, the A5X and 5MP iSight camera. It will be a little thicker and heavier, but probably unnoticeable. How does the new iPad stack up against its predecessor? Well, to me, hard to say it's anything groundbreaking. It's the sort of upgrades you would expect for a succesor. But of course, it will still fly off shelves once released. Head on over to Engadget for full features and comparison.Besides announcing the new iPad, a new version of iOS, iTunes and Apple TV were announced. Time to upgrade!

Nokia Lumia 900 coming to Malaysia soon?

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona yesterday, Nokia announced that the Lumia 900 is getting the global treatment. Coming to Canada in April and UK to follow after that. The only change the global version will bring is replacing the LTE capability with HSDPA+. Immediately following the announcement, I found out the Nokia Malaysia site has updated its site to include the 900 and also the newly announced 610. This would indicate that the phone is definitely coming here. But when, would be the question. The soonest would probably be Q2 2012. Let's hope it doesn't take too long. You can check out my previous post about the US version of 900 to check out what features are in store here.

It will be selling for about 480 euros which is about RM1945 here. That's reasonable enough given the 800 is at RM1650 and the improvements on top of the 800 is abundant. If you still haven't bought the 800, best to wait for this one as the features are worth the wait. On top of hardware, you'll also get Nokia Drive (voice-guided navigation), Maps and hopefully the other apps (Music, Reading) soon.

Nokia Lumia is now in Malaysia!

OK, I might be a little late on this. On February 10th, the new Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 were finally launched here in Malaysia. Nokia really went all out to launch the device at Pavilion, KL. Details on the phone, price and plans offered are also available after the break.

Introducing the new Nokia Lumia 900

The CES started this week with lots of new gadget announcements. Phones, PCs, TVs you name it. Of course the most I'm excited about is a new Windows Phone! And it's by Nokia! I've always loved the old Nokia phones for their maps (their GPS is the best!), hardware and the abundance of settings features. But of course, their UI could've been snappier. I also love Microsoft! Original XBOX and XBOX360 made me start rooting for them. When they announced their new mobile OS, Windows Phone, I was excited. The UI is so smooth and definitely something new. I just wished more people took notice.

Now that Nokia & Microsoft are in an agreement to create Nokia phones with Windows Phone, I'm hoping for more exposure. The first phones announced were not that impressive, Lumia 800, a somewhat rushed job to get a Windows Phone out by the holidays (However their marketing campaign everywhere was awesome!) and the Lumia 710, which is more of a cheaper alternative. The newly announced Lumia 900 does take a bit the 800 but with much more added features. I think the N9 design got a lot of good feedback so they decided to stick with what's working for them and pack it with more punch. Here's an intro video by Nokia Conversations.

Here are the specs of the Lumia 900:
Networks: GSM/EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/1900/2100, LTE Band 4 (1700/2100) & 17 (700)
OS: Windows Phone Release 7.5 – Mango Commercial Release 2 (Mango + LTE)
Memory: 512MB RAM
Storage: 16 GB internal memory (14.5GB user memory) + SkyDrive cloud storage
Volume: 90cc
Weight: 160g (5.6 ounces)
Dimensions: (max): 127.8 x 68.5 x 11.5 mm (5 x 2.7 x .45 inches)
A-GPS
Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n)
USB 2.0 high-speed
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
3mm headset connector

From what I've read and seen, I can say that it's on par with the Samsung Focus S phone. Focus S has a slimmer set. Similar features. Compared with the HTC Titan, Titan packs a bigger screen at 4.7". To put it easy, it's one of the full-featured Windows Phone. Unless there are newer phones from Nokia coming out by Q2 this year, I just might be getting it (need a good GPS)! No announcement on when it's gonna be released here let alone in the US so expect to wait a while.
